How to get to Hannover

Transport by air and train

Hannover Airport is the international airport of Hannover and can be reached from many major European airports such as Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), London Heathrow (LHR) or Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). There are also direct flights from Frankfurt/Main (FRA) and Munich (MUC). Berlin's airports Tegel (TXL) and Berlin Schönefeld (SXF) are only a train ride of 1 1/2 hours away.

The Airport train (S 5) to Hanover Central Station (Hannover Hbf) runs every 30 minutes from 03:35 a.m. to 01:05 p.m. and departs from Terminal C. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Please buy a 2-Zone-Ticket (3,40 €) before starting your journey.

Hannover lies at the intersection of the most important German highways (Autobahnen).

  • Coming from the North: Take A7 and exit at “Dreieck Hannover-Nord”, heading for “Hannover-Nord/Dortmund (A352). Follow the A352 merge to the A2. Leave at the exit “Herrenhausen/Zentrum” and take the B6 (Westschnellweg). The gardens are signposted, see also below for indications.
  • Coming from the East and West: Take A2 and leave at the exit “Herrenhausen/Zentrum”, then take the B6 (Westschnellweg). The gardens are signposted, see also below for indications.
  • Coming from the South: Take A7 and exit at “Hannover Süd” toward “Messe” on the B6 (Messeschnellweg). After passing the trade-fair grounds, turn into the B65 (Südschnellweg) toward City Centre. Exit at “Zentrum”, then turn right at the next set of traffic lights into Hildesheimer Straße. Hildesheimer Straße ends at the City Ring, into which you turn left toward “Universität / Herrenhäuser Gärten”. Follow the signs. 

How to get to Herrenhausen

Transport by tram

Herrenhausen Palace can easily be reached by tram. Start at underground tram stop “Kröpcke”. Take Line 4 (Direction “Stöcken”) or Line 5 (Direction “Garbsen”) and get off at “Herrenhäuser Gärten”. The venue is located in the Herrenhausen Gardens. The tram ride takes approximately 15 minutes.

Transport by car

The address is Herrenhäuser Straße, 30419 Hannover.

Coming from the North, East or West (coming from the South, see above) on the B6, turn into Bremer Damm toward City Center at the first intersection controlled by traffic lights. After about 2km, this gets you to the “Königsworther Platz”. To get to the Palace and Gardens of Herrenhausen, take a sharp turn left into Nienburger Straße and continue until you see the venue on your left.

Parking

The parking area ("Parkplatz Ost") by the entrance is subject to charges: per four hours or part thereof 3,00 €, the maxium fee per day is 12,00 €. Coaches park free of charge. During special events the costs may vary. The "Parkplatz West" at the street "Am Großen Garten" is subject to charges, too. Some parking slots can also be found in the “Alte Herrenhäuser Straße” to the right of the palace (see the Herrenhausen area map).
